From the early beginnings of English settlers learning to swim in the ocean, to the introduction of surfing compliments of the Duke, Australia has a deep and rich history of surfing that many are unfamiliar with. Although there are a multitude of Australian world champion surfers such as Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Tom Carroll and Mark Occulupo that strike a chord with local residents, Tim Baker takes a detailed look into how surfing in Australia evolved into the mainstream sport that it is today that many would never know existed.

Although the exhibition has been relocated within the museum to make way for other installations, it is still present and is a truly fascinating insight into past 100 years of Australian surfing. A must see for anyone interested in the history of surfing!
